[hr-wsis] Tunisian human rights situation post-WSIS?
Dear colleagues,
I think that many of us from civil society were concerned about going
to Tunis and its potential effect on legitimate civil society actors
on the ground. We were assured that the Tunisian authorities were
unlikely to use strong arm tactics against any protests that might
occur during the Summit. However some of these incidents did indeed
occur, as we all know.
But we were more concerned about any potential fall-out occuring
AFTER Tunis. Does anyone have any updates on the current situation
for human rights and other independent groups in Tunisia now? Have
there been any recent crackdowns or arrests? Has our presence there
had any beneficial impact?
Perhaps its too early to tell...
Regards,
Rik Panganiban
