Dear all,
The fourth session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the
Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of
Action has started this week and will continue until January 27, 2006.
See:
http://www.ohchr.org/english/issues/racism/groups/implementation-
4th.htm, where background information are available.
In this framework, a high-level seminar on "Racism and the Internet"
has been organized by the OHCHR in Geneva, on January 17-18.
The work of the seminar was introduced by Yaman Akdeniz, from the
University of Leeds, and director of the UK group Cyber-Rights and
Cyber-Liberties (a member of this caucus). Yaman was acting as a
consultant for this seminar. His background paper, entitled
"Stocktaking on efforts to combat Racism on the Internet", is now
available online at:
http://www.cyber-rights.org/reports/ya_un_paper_int_06.pdf.
I've participated myself to this seminar as panelist, and my
presentation is also available online at:
http://www-polytic.lip6.fr/article.php3?id_article=127. It is entitled
"Combating Racism on the Internet while Upholding International Human
Rights Standards".
Best,
Meryem
