Intl symposium on information society and human dignity
Hi all,
This is to inform you that an International Symposium on Information
Society and Human Dignity will be organized in Geneva on November 3-4.
As far as I know, the Symposium is not open to the public. However,
some members from the HR caucus will be participating to its work.
Web site is at: http://www.pdhre.org/wsis
The Symposium is convened by Prof. Peter Leuprecht, from McGill
University, in its capacity of member of the Presidium of PHDRE (The
People Movement for Human Rights Education), an NGO which played a
fundamental role in initiating the UN People Decade for Human Rights
Education, of which Adama Samassékou is also a member of the Presidium.
As put in the invitation letter, "The objective of the symposium is to
examine the opportunities and threats which the development of ICTs
brings with it for human dignity and human rights and to assert that
the information and communication society the building of which the
WSIS should foster must be firmly based on, and must contribute to the
development of, human dignity and human rights – all human rights,
civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. In this
perspective, the symposium will address in particular issues such as
the digital divide and its human rights implications and the role of
ICTs in human rights education. [...] The symposium is to produce a
statement on the information society and human dignity which will be
presented to the WSIS."
